Squad Activities for the Next Couple of Months

Here are a few dates for your diaries - more information will be provided closer to the time.

The next SCOA junior squad training will be at Windmill Hill, Deepcut on Saturday, 15th March 2008.

Saturday, 9th February 2008 - Swinley East Training

The next SCOA junior squad training will be at Swinley East on Saturday, 9th February 2008. Entry will be via the Buttersteep Rise gate [SU906662] - coming from Junction 3 of the M3, follow the A332 and signs for Ascot and Buttersteep Rise is to the right [east] just past the entrance to the Royal Berkshire Golf Club. Please arrive by 1015 hrs for a 1030 hrs start.

Squad Training, 1st December 2007

Next squad training will be this Saturday, 1st December 2007 in the New Forest. We will use the Fritham map - meet at Fritham car park - 200m on left beyond Royal Oak pub at 10.15am for 10.30am start http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=423050&y=114050&z=3&sv=423050,11....

Squad Training Dates for Rest of 2007

For your calendars and diaries, here are the next planned dates, proposed locations and coach responsible, for the rest of the year:

:: Saturday, 8th September, Long Valley South, Dave Rogers
:: Saturday, 13th October, The Lookout/Star Posts, Tim Booth

Squad Training, Saturday, 2nd June 2007 - Bordon, Hampshire

Squad training for Saturday, 2nd June 2007 will be at Bordon [north map], Hampshire.

Squad Training, Saturday 19th May 2007

Squad training for Saturday, 19th May 2007 will be at Bramshott Common, Hampshire. This replaces the previous area, Longmoor, which we and the army have both been kicked off due to a motorcycle enduro race. We will be using the area to the north of the A3.

Bramshott Common is south of Hindhead and accessed from the A3. The area needs to be approached from the south as the A3 is dual carriageway, so if you are coming from the north you will need to go past the 'Canadian Memorial Planting' and then take the Liphook and Bramshott exit. You then pass back over the A3 and have the option to go through Bramshott village, or go north up the A3 for about 600 metres and take the first left. From the south, please either take the Bramshott exit or the following road immediately after it.

Squad Training, Saturday 21st April 2007

Squad training for Saturday, 21st April 2007 will be at Wilverley Inclosure, the New Forest. Please park at the car park and assemble at the picnic area at SU254010, [located off the A35 and accessed by Holmsley Road B3058 and north at Wootton, or via Burley Road from Brockenhurst]. We are very lucky to get a New Forest area at this time of year so please make the effort to come along. Please arrive as usual by 1015 hrs, ready for a 1030 hrs start. We will stop for lunch [please bring food and drink]. We will complete the training at 1430 hrs and be back at the car park by 1500 hrs.

Details of RouteGadget and Catching Features

As I said during my talk on Saturday night, I am putting more details of these systems on the squad web page here.

Route Gadget is a system to allow a number of orienteers to co-operate to put their routes at an event on a common web site and allows you to compare your route with others on your class or course. After putting your route on the web site, you can examine other routes or play an animation of your route through the forest relative to others, if the split times are avilable.
